FLOORING STARTED

Flooring has started to go in.  We are using four materials:  Slate, Ceramic Tile, Bamboo, and Floating Cork.  Slate to be used in the main floor entry and mud room.  We picked several colors of Indian slate to be mixed together in 16x16 size.  Tile on the main floor is 16x16 and is a varigated medium grey color.  Lower level tile (bath and laundry) is the same size and pattern except a light brown color.  Bamboo in the living area and guest bath is a streaky blond while the master bed receives a dark brown bamboo.  Floating cork to be used in the kitchen and the rest of the lower level.

LIVING ROOM CEILING / TRIM

Birch plywood to be used on the living room ceiling.  My idea was to rip down 4x8 sheets into 20-inch strips and stagger strips lengthwise between the glue-lam beams to create a plank effect.  Plywood will receive clearcoat lacquer and edges will be eased to create a slight reveal on the edge to edge joints.

All casing and base is hemlock up and down with the best (vertical grain) pieces to be used upstairs to coordinate with the VG Doug FIr veneered doors.  Birch veneered doors will go downstairs.  Casing joints will be mitered and clear lacquered.

INTERIOR PAINT

Interior paint complete up and down. We went with three different shades from the same color family. Main floor and basement are satin Accessible Beige (SW7036), but in the flesh the color looks like a neutral light gray. The master bed is two shades darker, and a couple rooms in the basement are one shade lighter. The drywall finish is smooth, which required an additional mudding step between primer and paint coats in order to remove surface imperfections which can show with the smooth finish.

MORE DRYWALL

All drywall is hung and taping has started. Soffit installation has started - color is charcoal grey and will closely match the roof color. The fascia on the lower roof lines was increased to 10" to better correspond with the upper roof fascia of 12". This was done by furring out the fascia with 2x4 material below the structural 2x6's.
