NEW KITCHEN TABLE

We designed the dining space in the house to accept up to a 9-foot long table. Our new choice arrived last week. This is the Sara Dining Table from Hay Studio in Denmark. Top dimensions are roughly 3-ft by 8-ft with room to seat eight. Base is constructed of tubular stainless steel - legs are 1-inch diameter and the trestle is 3/4-inch diameter. Top is a 17-layer 15/16-inch thick exposed edge plywood with a satin white laminate top. Table is very sturdy with just a slight amount of end to end wobble. We wanted a one piece laminate top for ease of cleaning and a stout but "visually light" base which the stainless tubing delivers.

Our current set of chairs consist of 4 Emeco 1006s. We are considering a new set of 8 HM side shells in light blue or lime green with wire bases. We have couple vintage shells on reproduction wire bases and they go well with the table.

WALL FINISHED

The low wall around the garage base was faced with the same cultured stone as the big front porch planters. Also added some stone to the corners of the garage.

WILDFLOWER SOD

About 300-SF of the side yard is planted in a wildflower sod. The sod is a mix of wildflowers native to Montana and is grown by Summit Valley Turf (on the web at summitvalleyturf.com). The sod will be mulched down at the end of the fall and will come back the following year. The initial planting looks slightly thin, but by the third growing season the sod should be filled out. Sprinklers for the WF sod need to be pop up type at least 12-inches tall.

CURBING POURED

The curbing guys came by and knocked this out in one day. Results look good. Landscapers should finish up next week.

PATIO POURED

Rain be damned! Very unusual weather patterns thus far this summer. We have had rain at least three time a week through July! Not to mention the one tornado we had in June. OK, no more delays, the back patio off the basement walk-out was poured today. Exposed aggregate looks great. Curbing guy should show up tomorrow and the yard should be ready for mulch and sod next week.

GLASS CABINET DOORS

We had the kitchen cabinets designed with some of the shelves open with an eye toward adding some aluminum framed glass doors later on. The first set of glass doors to be added consisted of three aluminum narrow frame (stainless steel finish) doors with a somewhat obscure glass (galette) to be operated vertically.

The doors were ordered from doors2me.com and the fit and finish are excellent. The doors were predrilled to receive hinges by Blum (model: Adventos HK-S vertical lift system). Installation was fairly easy. I made a template from scrap masonite for setting the hinges for drilling. Align the dimples in the holes and drill the holes for hinge attachment. Doors were predrilled to receive the special narrow door frame Blum adapter for fitment with the HK-S hinge. The Blum lift system works well. Adjustments allow tweaking the up/down, right/left, and depth of the doors, as well as spring tension aiding in lift. All hardware was purchased through cabinetparts.com. Knobs are ordered and will be added upon arrival.

I am planning to add a double hinged aluminum framed door to the upper corner unit as well as double doors to the upper book shelf unit.
